SALARY SCALE:      DOQ/DOE               FTE:                       .67

JOB SUMMARY:  The primary focus of this position is to provide a comprehensive, integrated model of services that fosters safe school environments, promotes healthy adolescent development and prevents alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse within the public school system.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND TASKS:

 

  1. Provides standardized screening and referral information to students and parents participating in the prevention/intervention program for the purpose of assisting students with effective intervention support.
  2. Conducts early intervention/insight programs for students experimenting with alcohol/drug use or suspended for alcohol/drug use for the purpose of reducing and/or mitigating substance abuse and improving health and learning preparedness.
  3. Implements an identification and referral process for school staff, students, and parents for the purpose of providing substance abuse reduction strategies and improving health and learning preparedness.
  4. Provides staff development training on tobacco, alcohol and other drug prevention or intervention topics for the purpose of sharing expertise and resources on prevention/intervention strategies and building team capacity.
  5. Provides individual & family counseling services within the student assistance framework for the purpose of delivering services in conformance to established guidelines.
  6. Coordinate activities and regularly meets with the school care team for the purpose of identifying high risk students and referring them to school and community-based services.
  7. Provides in school support groups such as affected others, early ATOD education groups, and any other groups requested by the schools for the purpose of providing students with necessary resources and skills.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

 

Requires one of the following: 

 

(a)    Associates degree with at least two years of experience working with at-risk youth in a drug/alcohol treatment setting, preferably in a classroom/group setting and possess a Chemical Dependency Professional or Chemical Dependency Professional Trainee certification OR;

 

(b)   Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field preferred along with experience working with youth in a drug/alcohol setting and possess a Chemical Dependency Professional or Chemical Dependency Professional Trainee certification OR;

 

(c)    Any combination of education, experience and measurable performance which demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·        Must possess a CDP, CDPT or CPP certification in addition to the above education and experience.

·        Experience with crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and providing advocacy-based counseling services.

·        Ability to work individually in a self-directed manner and as part of a team;

·        Willingness and ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural, educational and economic backgrounds with various lifestyles, sexual orientations, and of all ages;

·        Ability to maintain confidentiality.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:  This position works in a school environment, 70% of the time with clients/students, 20% of the time on a computer, and 10% time in the field moving clients, driving, and attending meetings.  Work may be interrupted by the immediate needs of a client in crisis.  Work involves physical movement throughout the facility and the ability to climb stairs.  Position requires employee to lift/carry 15-30 pounds occasionally, and push/pull 10-20 pounds occasionally.  Position has the ability to sit/stand as needed.
