Scope of Responsibilities

As program manager, you’ll be responsible for the development, implementation, and overall management of one or more of the agencies core traffic safety programs. You’ll monitor federal-and state-funded traffic safety projects throughout the state and collaborate with a diverse team of private, public, and non-profit stakeholders to effectively carry out the agency’s mission. You’ll work closely with peers inside the agency in analyzing complex problems and developing innovative solutions. Your individual efforts will be maximized through a shared management approach that relies on authentic trust, differing perspectives, respectful communication, personal accountability, and healthy team dynamics. Your work will include understanding governing rules and regulations and executing a program that operates within those constraints while achieving extraordinary results. Because of the scope and importance of this work, we need creative and committed professionals with strong administrative and program management skills who thrive in teams, but also excel working independently.


We’re looking for candidates who can:

  • Build consensus among diverse groups toward the development of comprehensive and collaborative solutions.
  • Lead project teams to include establishing operating norms, defining and prioritizing objectives, preparing work plans and schedules, and driving performance.
  • Create strategic and operational plans.
  • Deliver exceptional presentations and training content to diverse stakeholders, including legislative committees, Commission agencies, the media, and other state and local organizations.
  • Negotiate working agreements with partners and other service providers to include defining scope of work, determining deliverables and milestones, and establishing appropriate evaluation criteria.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor performance metrics to determine program effectiveness.
  • Develop, coordinate, and actively participate in relevant conferences and training events.
  • Manage financial resources by monitoring and evaluating expenditures from various funding sources, ensuring adherence to guiding regulations and contractual terms.

 

Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in social science, communications, English, organizational leadership, public administration, or a related field. Proven performance managing a statewide program may be considered as a substitute for formal education.

Five years of experience managing projects from conception through the project lifecycle (e.g. initiation, planning, execution, coordination, monitoring, closure, and evaluation).

Two years of experience leading teams through the processes of establishing operating norms, defining and prioritizing objectives, preparing work plans and schedules, and driving performance.


Compensation
This is a Washington Management Service (WMS) Band 2 employment opportunity. In addition to a generous health and retirement benefits package, the salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 annually depending on qualifications.
