August 31, International Overdose Awareness Day, is an opportunity to remember those who have been affected by overdose, and to educate about how to prevent or reverse overdose. Stopoverdose.org has shareable resources that can be used for this day and for related events.

The Opioid Response Workgroup, co-lead by the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery and the Department of Health have recently completed a revision of the Wasington State Opioid Response Plan.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced the update of an important resource on opioid overdose prevention.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Tips for Teens fact sheets provide information about the effects of short- and long-term use of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and inhalants. In 2018, SAMHSA released fact sheets for additional substances. These brochures provide facts and answer frequently asked questions about each of the substances covered. Fact sheets include:

Partnership for Drug-Free Kids has created a new eBook — Heroin, Fentanyl & Other Opioids: A Comprehensive Resource for Families with a Teen or Young Adult Struggling with Opioid Use. To prepare parents and families with the knowledge and skills to identify opioids, spot early use and take action effectively.

The Washington State Department of Health has recently published an Opioid Dashboard.
