Pharmacology, Neurobiology of Drugs, and Understanding Addiction

This seven (7) part workshop is presented by Steven Freng, Psy. D., MSW. Dr. Freng has more than 30 years in the substance use disorders field. He also works as the Prevention/Treatment Manager at the Northwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), a region of 14 counties within Washington State that has been designated by the White House of National Drug Control Policy.
 
The curriculum has six (6) topics:
 

  • A brief history of psychoactive substance and an update on current trends in our communities.
  • The impacts of psychoactive substances on the brain and the basics of addiction.
  • An in-depth discussion of stimulants and synthetic drugs.
  • An in-depth discussion of alcohol, alcoholism and fetal alcohol syndrome/effects (FAS/E).
  • An in-depth discussion of opioids, both medications and illicit.
  • An in-depth discussion of marijuana, including the impacts of legalization in WA State.
