Prevent Together Program Coordinator

The mission of the Prevent Together: Battle Ground Prevention Alliance is to prevent and reduce substance abuse in the Battle Ground Community by building resiliency, strengthening relationships and providing education for families and community members. The Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the Prevent Together program by carrying out the operations of the Coalition and its Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and Drug Free Communities (DFC) grant. The coalition successfully completed their grant for years, one through five, and has received their funding for years six through ten.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Coordinate the work of the coalition and committee members in cooperation with community organizations, local residents, youth and other stakeholders.
  • Development and implementation of the Coalition action plan, recruitment and community and volunteer engagement and communications.
  • Manage administrative aspects of the DFC grant including submitting all ongoing coalition data reports, certifications, and other reports or worksheets required by SAMHSA.
  • Monitor the annual budget and action plan with coalition leadership. Update as needed.
  • Work with the City's Finance Department to ensure match requirement is met annually. Identify and recruit community members for sector representatives and coalition leadership. Represent Coalition in the community, including creating and compiling presentation materials and speaking at community meetings.
  • Provide administrative support as requested including agendas, documenting activities, etc. ]
  • Attend DFC sponsored and other coalition trainings as needed.
  • Report to Chief of Police for direction/approvals needed; performance reviews. Maintain, disclose and destroy public records in accordance with the requirements of the WA Public Records Act and WA State Archives records retention guidelines.
  • Follow/adhere to all city policies and procedures, and safety program regulations and requirements.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications Knowledge of:

  • Social Media websites.
  • Proper use of English, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Record keeping, regulations, principles and practices of records retention system.
  • City government functions, policies, rules and regulations, Federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations. Research and reporting methods. Principles and procedures of Grants.
  • Principles and practices of budget administration.

Ability to:

  • Recognize and build on strengths of others and work effectively with the public to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Work with people at all levels on an organization.
  • Be highly organized and strong in follow-through as well as time management. Interpret standard legal documents.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Work under pressure with challenging deadlines.
  • Work independently on multiple tasks, cope with interruptions and meet deadlines.
  • Represent the Coalition positively and professionally with the public, elected and appointed officials.
  • Maintain confidentiality. Operate and use modern office equipment including a personal computer and appropriate computer software; work within business and data systems
  • Perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED and a Bachelor's Degree in the humanities or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in: Facilitating and supporting multiple stakeholder groups in reaching their goals.
  • Community organizing and volunteer management including recruitment, engagement and ability to implement community events and activities. Youth development experience preferred.
  • Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid driver's license. Must pass pre-employment references. Must pass a police criminal background check, and polygraph.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed in an indoor office setting with extended periods at a computer, sitting or standing. Physical effort is needed to move, lift and carry office equipment, supplies, and materials. Communication skills such as talking, seeing and hearing are needed for frequent person-to-person contacts, computer and telephone usage. Work may include some nights and weekends. Out of town and local travel required.
