Webinar: Effective alcohol policy: Strategies and interventions to reduce alcohol-related problems

Coalitions often struggle to identify interventions that qualify as environmental strategies. This webinar will present information on environmental interventions that are considered evidence-based and that result in greater community-level impacts. These interventions are policy focused and have risen to meet the evidence standards set by the Community Guide to Preventative Services and the World Health Organization. During the webinar, the presenter will also discuss the manner in which evidence-based interventions translate to implementation at the local level. Interaction by participants will be encouraged.

During this webinar participants will:

1) Explore the range of evidence-based environmental strategies to reduce alcohol-related problems in the community
2) Learn the core differences between individual and environmental strategies
3) Have an opportunity to identify policies under consideration and pose questions about them

Presenter: Michael Sparks M.A. is an Alcohol Policy Specialist and President of SparksInitiatives. His primary interest is assisting communities to implement evidence-based environmental strategies to reduce alcohol and other drug problems. Michael is currently working with Johns Hopkins University, Wake Forest University, Texans Standing Tall, Centers for Disease Control, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation, Health Foundation of South Florida and Paso del Norte Health Foundation on a range of public health issues.
