Webinar: Mental health providers and vicarious trauma during national emergencies

This one and half-hour online session will provide information on practical tools to increase the knowledge of mental health service providers about the implications of vicarious trauma on mental health and how to prevent it. The presenter will discuss the dimensions of vicarious trauma, the concepts of compassion fatigue and burning syndrome, the neurobiology of accompaniment in mental health professionals, individual responses and their implications at the organizational level, the post-natural events experience, strategies to face the effects of vicarious trauma.  

This is an intermediate level workshop designed for social workers, counselors, psychologists, graduate students, and community health workers. 

About the presenter: Elithet Silva-Martínez has an MSW and PhD in Social Work. In the last 19 years, she has specialized in working with survivors of gender violence in Puerto Rico and the United States. Dr. Silva Martínez is currently an Associate Professor and coordinator of the Master's Program in Social Work at the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Puerto Rico and Faculty Affiliate at the Center of Violence Against Women and Children at the School of Social Work at Rutgers. Certified by the National Center for Social Work Trauma Education and Workforce Development and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. Her work is inspired by the stories of the women in her life: her grandmothers, her mother and daughters, Lina and Lara, aged 10 and 6 respectively.
