Webinar: Mentoring Matters in public health

Landmark events like the emergence of HIV, 9/11, and now the COVID-19 pandemic, bring a new wave of people into the public health workforce. At the same time, significant numbers of governmental public health professionals are expected to retire or are considering leaving their positions in the next few years. The May session of Hot Topics in Practice reviews how mentoring is an important tool for addressing these issues, developing new leaders, and building more equitable organizations.

In this one-hour presentation, Jackie Litzau will discuss the findings from interviews with leaders around the Northwest and reveal how they informed the development of NWCPHP’s new online resource, Mentoring Matters, for strengthening mentorship in public health agencies. She will also highlight key material covered in the new course, giving special attention to how equity and inclusion are incorporated into the content and how these values can be put into practice.
