Addiction is an issue in every U.S. workforce. From alcohol and prescription opioids to cannabis and fentanyl, substance use is putting your workers at risk. To address these dangers, the National Safety Council and NORC at the University of Chicago have collaborated to update the “Substance Use Cost Calculator for Employers,” funded by Nationwide. This authoritative, easy-to-use tool provides business leaders with specific information about the cost of substance use in their workplaces. Attendees will receive a detailed introduction to this tool, find out how substance use is affecting their workforces and learn the steps they can take to begin addressing it. Presenters: Rachael Cooper has worked in the substance use field both in the United States and abroad, focusing on overdose prevention, harm reduction, and policy. At the National Safety Council, she oversees all initiatives related to impairment, opioid use and misuse, and mental health. Currently, most of her work is focused on employers, employees, and getting employees they support they need. Dr. Eric Goplerud is a clinical psychologist, until his retirement in 2018 Vice President and Senior Fellow at NORC at the University of Chicago, and founder and chairman of the board of the Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions.
