Webinar: Tips for teens: Youth champions and resources for engaging youth in substance use prevention

Join the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration for its final National Prevention Week 2019 webinar.

Peer-to-peer messages are a key tool in dispelling myths and preventing substance use. During this interactive webinar, participants will hear firsthand from a panel of youth prevention champions who are successfully engaging other teens in substance use prevention. Additionally, participants will learn how they can integrate SAMHSA’s Tips for Teens fact sheet series and NIDA’s National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week® in youth substance use prevention outreach efforts in their own communities. These resources also can be used by prevention professionals, educators, health care providers, and others who interact with teens on a regular basis and want to raise their awareness about the risks and consequences of substance use.

The conversation will be moderated by:

  • David Lamont Wilson, National Prevention Week 2019 Coordinator, SAMHSA
  • Brian Marquis, NIDA Public Liaison Officer, National Institute on Drug Abuse

Youth champions on the panel will include:

  • Mackenzie Raimond, Burrillville Tobacco Free Teen Alliance, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)
  • Amir Oliver, “Talk. They Hear You.” Campaign Artist, Student at New York University
  • Morgan Pettis, Baylor University’s Peer Allies Coalition, ACCEPT Texas, Youth M.O.V.E.
