Washington State Prevention History Timeline

The Washington State Prevention History timeline was published by the Washington Association for Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention (WASAVP) in November 2019. Mary Segawa, Julie Peterson, Liz Wilhelm, Joy Lyons, and other WASAVP members compiled the information included in the timeline.

Earlier this year, the Washington Healthy Youth (WHY) Coalition Communications Team began exploring the idea of updating and expanding the timeline to create an educational resource to help new prevention professionals learn about prevention history in Washington State. But to do this, we need your help!

The WHY Communications Team is interested in learning about Washington prevention history from you – new and seasoned preventionists alike. What major events in the prevention field do you remember? What individuals, groups, or organizations impacted prevention in Washington State? What events were influential in Washington State’s prevention history? Whether at the local or state level, widely remembered or nearly forgotten, big or small, please consider sharing them with us!

To contribute to this project, you add a comment to this post below. Or, if you are at the annual provider meeting or Prevention Summit, grab a marker and jot down your ideas on the appropriate poster in the meeting room. Please include as much detailed information as possible to address the who, what, when, where, why, and how.

Thank you in advance for your time and thoughtful responses!
